Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service that lets students, faculty, and staff of J. Murrey Atkins Library borrow materials that are owned by other libraries.
LOGIN TO INTERLIBRARY LOAN
Interlibrary Loan Contact Information
Through ILL, you can request books and other academic materials that are currently not available in our Library and pick them up once they arrive. ILL requests for physical items may take 2-3 weeks. These items can be picked up at the Circulation Desk once they become available.*
The service also provides electronic copies of articles and reports that are not available directly from our Library. Items that are sent electronically are usually received within 1-3 days. Once you receive an email notifying you that your article is available, you can download the requested material from your Interlibrary Loan account. (Your ILL account is different from your My Library Account.)
To use the Interlibrary Loan service, use the online form on ILL’s Main Menu page. You must be logged in to your ILL account to make a request.
You can also make an Interlibrary Loan request in the online search catalog by selecting a title and clicking “Request Item Through Interlibrary Loan”. Citation information is automatically transferred to the request form if the request is made through the search catalog.
To check the status of your Interlibrary Loan request, click on the “Tracking” button (next to the green UNC Charlotte truck icon) located on the Interlibrary Loan Main Menu page.
Watch this video for more information about how to make a request through Interlibrary Loan.
Please note: Community Borrowers and Early College students are not eligible to use Interlibrary Loan.
*Faculty may request to have materials delivered to their department through the Item Delivery Service.
If Atkins library owns an item and the item is available in the general collection or microfilm/fiche, a scan of a chapter or an article may be requested through Document Delivery at no charge. To make such a request, the patron should enter the bibliographic information into the electronic form in the patron’s interlibrary loan account. Typically delivery time will be within 24 hours, but this may vary depending on staff availability. All copies will be delivered electronically.
Requirements for Document Delivery Requests:
ONE chapter from a book may be requested.
35 page maximum.
A complete and accurate bibliographic description of the requested material is needed.
No abbreviations, please.
Library patrons are responsible for using materials in accordance with Copyright Law (Title 17, US Code) and its guidelines.
All correspondence concerning document delivery requests will be sent to UNC Charlotte E-mail accounts only. All students, faculty and staff requesting document delivery must have a valid UNC Charlotte email account. This service is not available to members of the public, Community borrowers, or Early College Students.
