As the Scholarly Communications Librarian for the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC), housed in the JMA [J. MurreyAtkins Library], Hoon serves as a campus-wide copyright resource and is available for workshops, presentations, and individual consultations. In addition to raising campus copyright awareness, Hoon focuses particularly on copyright as it intersects with library collections and services.
Prior to joining UNCC, Hoon served as the Special Assistant to the Provost for Copyright Administration at NC State and as the NCSU Scholarly Communication Librarian for over twelve years where she authored the TEACH Act Toolkit and achieved a national reputation for copyright expertise. As the Association of Research Libraries first Visiting Scholar for Campus Copyright and Intellectual Property, Hoon headed the "Know Your Copy Rights" web site and brochure. She has worked extensively with the Center for Intellectual Property at the University of Maryland University College and is the American Library Association's 2008 recipient of the L. Ray Patterson Award in Support of Users' Rights. She holds a J.D. from the University of Washington and a B.S. in Nursing from the University of Colorado.
Ms. Hoon works in consultation with UNC-Charlotte's Office of Legal Affairs, which is the only office on campus that gives legal advice. Ms. Hoon provides information and education but does not give legal advice.
