Colvard subsequently was involved in the development of the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics, for which he served as chairman of the board of trustees. He also is the author of Mixed Emotions (1985) and coauthor of Knowledge is Power (1987) and University Research Park (1988). He and his wife, Martha, reside in Charlotte.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection documents Colvard's activities as an administrator in higher education, particularly through speeches given at Mississippi State University and UNC Charlotte, correspondence, and trustee files of the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. For additional biographical material, 1947-76, and speeches, 1958-75, see especially the UNCC Archives, Files of the Director of Public Information and Publication, 1961-77, box 2, folders 18 and 19.
