Biographical/Historical note

The American New Left was a term used in reference to activists, educators, agitators and others in the 1960s and 1970s who sought to implement a broad range of reforms. They rejected involvement with the labor movement and Marxism's historical theory of class struggle and were associated with the Hippie movement and college campus protest movements.

SUBJECT FILES 1960-1975

Scope and Contents note

Includes publications of a non-serial nature grouped by topics or organizations. An attempt has been made in the descriptions to indicate if an item also relates to a significant degree to a subject(s) other than the one under which it is filed. It has not been possible, however, to note all such relationships since many of the publications cover a broad range of topics in their analysis and criticism of American society.
