Biographical/Historical note
Annie Bryant Robey was the sister of journalist H.E.C. "Red Buck" Bryant and a native of Lower Providence township in Mecklenburg County. She married Wesley Marvin Robey, Sr., a dentist in Charlotte for about 35 years. During World War I, she served as the chair of the Belgian relief work in Charlotte, which was sponsored by the American Red Cross. Robey also involved herself with the National Women's Liberty Loan Committee during the war. As a committee of the U.S. Treasury Department, the Liberty Loan Committee coordinated five campaigns in which Liberty bonds were sold during the war to help finance the war effort.
