Biographical/Historical note

In 1912, a group of Charlotte-area women led by Emma Hall of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church organized the Charlotte Interdenominational Missionary Union. The main activity of the early organization was to support missionary work for victims of leprosy. In 1951, the Union joined the United Church Women’s Organization (later renamed Church Women United) as a member of the organization’s North Carolina state council.
