Atkins Library hosted librarians from around the region today for a workshop on NCKnows, North Carolina’s collaborative virtual reference service. The training focused on Libraryh3lp, an Instant Messaging System used by libraries to provide reference and research services. As the use of online communication becomes increasingly common, libraries are responding by opening new channels for their patrons to use to connect with them.
Atkins has provided Instant Messaging reference using NCKnows for a number of years and its usage grows each semester. This fall, Atkins will add Text-a-Librarian to its suite of reference services.
