New Photographic Collection Donated To Special Collections

J. Murrey Atkins Library Special Collections is pleased to announce the recent donation of The Steve Perille Photographic Collection by Byron Baldwin, a fellow photographer and friend of Perille.

Perille worked as a photographer for the Charlotte Observer from 1972 until 1983. He was named 1975 Southern Photographer of the  Year. His work highlights everyday scenes of people and places, most of which are in Charlotte. Byron Baldwin, in his curator's statement for the exhibit Steve Perille: Unfiltered at the Light Factory in Charlotte, states, "Steve Perille’s photographs are deceptively simple. They are of real people doing real things, and of real places that are seemingly unremarkable.  Through his photographs we are drawn to the beauty of ordinary moments."

For more information on Perille and his work, please visit the Steve Perille: Unfiltered exhibit profile on the Light Factory website. Also visit the Steve Perille Flickr photostream to view selected photographs.
