Atkins' COVID-19 Response

As of Wednesday, March 25, Atkins Library will be closed until further notice.

  • Help is available through our Live Chat service during these hours:  Monday-Friday 8 am - 6 pm and Sat/Sun 1-5 pm. You can also use the chat or email AskAtkins@uncc.edu for any questions related to library services or resources, including if you need to pick up a laptop (if available, by appointment). More information about borrowing laptops is available here.

  • Students, faculty, and staff may return library books and DVDs (including Interlibrary Loan) to any campus book drop location. Those with laptops or library equipment other than books to drop off may contact Crystal Perry to make an appointment to return the equipment to the library at a specified time. 

  • Anyone with library materials to return who has left the Charlotte area or is unable to come to campus may request a postage-paid label to return materials by mail. Please complete this form to provide information about your returns and request a UPS mailing label. Instructions for packing laptops for shipping can be found here. If you have questions about materials you have to return, please contact Patricia Quinn (pquinn6@uncc.edu).

  • All items currently on loan from the library have a due date of May 7 or later. We will not be charging late fees at this time for any library materials if you are unable to return them by this date. Only lost or damaged items will incur fees for repair or replacement.

  • Most library services and collections are available online through the catalog

  • Library faculty are maintaining an Atkins Library Covid-19 Resources Guide to assist with your teaching, learning, and research needs

  • Atkins Library will not send or receive physical interlibrary loan items beginning March 17 until further notice. Items currently incoming from other libraries will sit for 48 hours before being processed normally

  • We will digitize articles and chapters from our print collection and deliver them electronically through our interlibrary loan system. We also have options for getting access to books in our collection. You can initiate this process by using the Request option in the catalog when logged in to your library account.   • Request additional research help through our Research Consultation Form or by directly contacting subject librarians who can meet with you virtually and via phone

  • Architecture Library: Closed

  • Special Collections & University Archives: Closed; instruction and research assistance provided via email and with online collections. Please see the Special Collections website for more information about services

  • Library staff will do the best they can to meet all requests, although there may be some delays
