Self-Service Reproduction of Materials
You can photograph or scan Atkins Library Special Collections and University Archives materials that are in good condition in the Dalton Reading Room. Please check in first with Reading Room staff to determine if photography or scanning is appropriate for the materials.
Fee-Based Reproduction of Materials
Covid-19 Response Advisory: Due to limited staffing on-site, and the campus closure for winter break, we are experiencing delays in the fulfillment of reproduction requests. We regret any inconvenience.
We provide fee-based reproduction services. We offer two types of reproduction services:
- Reference scan PDFs created for personal use (loose, good condition paper materials only)
- High quality reproductions of print, photographic, or audio materials
While staff members can often answer simple questions about materials, in-depth research questions related to reproduction requests will need to be researched in person by the requester or their representative.
To request either high resolution or low resolution reproductions, please complete the Reproduction Request Form. Fill in as much information as you can, even if you don’t know the exact location of the materials you are looking for.
Information about the cost of reproduction services can be found in the Reproduction Pricing Guide. After you submit a request through the Reproduction Request Form, a staff member will contact you within one week with an invoice for your request.
Use of Materials
For uses of reproductions beyond private study, scholarship, and research, users of materials are responsible for understanding and complying with U.S. copyright law. The Society of American Archivists offers this Copyright and Unpublished Materials brochure which is useful for archival research. For more information, please visit the Atkins Library copyright page.
Materials in the public domain may be freely used by researchers. In some cases, UNC Charlotte may own the copyright to materials we hold. In these cases, we invite researchers to request permission to publish by contacting email@example.com.
In the case of publication, exhibition, or commercial use, we ask that acknowledgement be made regarding ownership of the original by J. Murrey Atkins Library, The University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Citation style will vary depending upon the style guide being used, but the following can serve as a basic reference:
- Archives and manuscripts: [Title of collection or record group], [call number], J. Murrey Atkins Library, The University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
- Oral history interviews: [Title of interview], [date of interview], J. Murrey Atkins Library, The University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
We invite you to send us a copy of any publication using our materials so we may add it to our collections.
